John William Harrison, Jr., of Peoria, Arizona passed away on August 4, 2024 at the age of 91. John was born on March 18, 1933 in Bellingham, Washington, the son of John and Thelma (Viereck) Harrison. After graduating from Nooksak Valley High School in 1952, John enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in the USAF from 1952 to 1956, was trained as an aircraft mechanic and achieved the rank of A/1C (Sargent). Following his service in the Air Force, John became an aircraft mechanic first with Western Airlines then Delta Airlines finally retiring in 1993.
John was an avid baseball and basketball fan and loved watching the Arizona Diamondbacks and Phoenix Suns. He also enjoyed compiling family genealogy, collecting over 5300 names going back 27 generations. John committed his life to Jesus Christ in 1979 and was baptized at Deer Valley Baptist Church on January 13, 1980. John was an active member at Desert Hills Bible Church in Phoenix from 2003 until his passing and hosted a Bible study in his home.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Joyce Faye Harrison in August 2015 and his sister Barbara Oltman in October 2022. He is survived by his two daughters Kenda (married to David) Jerome and Tawnya (married to Doug) Raber, his step-brother Robert Keith and his step-sister Rosemary Crandall. John leaves a wonderful legacy for his 11 grandchildren Daniel (married to Ashley), Sara (married to Bradley), Leah (married to Wyatt), Rebekah (married to Josh), Hannah (married to Daniel), Naomi, Abigail (married to Trevor), Miriam, Rachel, Ruth and Seth and his 8 great grandchildren Aiden, Jackson, Chloe, Paityn, Evelyn, Matthew, Amelia and Phoebe.
A Graveside Service for family and close friends will be held Friday, August 30, 2024 at 2:30pm at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. Beardsley Rd., Phoenix, AZ 8502. The Celebration of Life will be Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11:00am at Desert Hills Bible Church, 16635 N. 51st Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85306.
