John Joseph Fredlake

John J. Fredlake, Jack, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at the home of his daughter, Mary Souchek in Parker, Colorado. Born in Racine, Wisconsin on July 19, 1925, to Joseph and Esther Fredlake, Jack had an older brother, James, and younger sister, Judith. After the death of his father in 1933, his family moved to South Bend, Indiana, where Jack lived for the next 28 years. Following his service in the military, Jack returned to South Bend to attend the University of Notre Dame, graduating in 1950 with a degree in mathematics. During this time he met the love of his life, Lorraine Milewski. After a four year courtship they married on August 26, 1950, and had seven children together. In 1961, Jack’s career as an engineer moved his family to Tempe, Arizona. There, Jack and Lorraine raised their seven children with a limitless supply of love, patience, and creativity. While he loved camping, fishing, and hiking, he also spent many hours working in his woodshop and reading in his favorite chair. He retired in 1987. In retirement, Jack and Lorraine spent many hours and covered many miles traveling together to see much of the US as well as Europe. Jack was passionate about his family, his faith, and Notre Dame football.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lorraine Fredlake, his seven children : Mark (Kathy), Peter (Mary), David (Margo), Mary (Mike), Christopher (Michele), Barb, and Jim (Laurel), 17 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Doris Milewski, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends during the visitation and rosary on Thursday evening, May 5, from 4:30-8 p.m.at Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary and Memorial Gardens, 4310 East Southern Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona, as well as at the funeral mass. Fr. Thomas Hallsten will conduct the funeral mass at the Church of the Holy Spirit,1800 East Libra Drive, Tempe, Arizona, on Friday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m. followed immediately by a graveside service at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery. John contributed to the Nuns of the Desert since the beginning of their mission in 2007 and the family requests that donations be made in John’s name to: Our Lady of Solitude, P.O.
