Howard Riley “Pinky” Myers was born February 7th 1916 in St. David, Illinois. He left us to join his loving wife on February 28th 2013 in Prescott Valley, AZ at the ripe young age of 97. Growing up, he was the oldest of 4 children. At a young age, he quit school after 8th grade and went to work to support his family. At the age of 20, he took a bus out to Tempe, AZ to join his family due to his father's health. Throughout his life he worked a variety jobs including service station attendant, tank driver, local bus driver, and eventually owning his own business (Maricopa Roofing Company) from 1966 to 1987. On November 4th 1937 he met his wife, Ada Ruth Blanton, at a church social. They were married one year later on November 4th 1938. He proudly served in the Navy as a cook from 1945 to 1946. They had their first son, Don, November 17th 1942 in Tempe, AZ. Three years later Howard and Ruth had another son, Howard Ray, on November 30, 1945 in San Diego, CA while Howard was serving our country during World War II. Howard enjoyed the great outdoors through camping and fishing with his family. In his later years, Howard enjoyed communicating on his CB radio and became an avid Diamondbacks fan. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and his wife. He is survived by his 2 sons Don Myers of Prescott Valley and Ray Myers of Elizabethtown, KY, his 7 grandchildren, Jeff Myers of AZ, Julie Goss of AZ, Hallie Polston, of KY, Stefany Myers, of KY, Lindsey McKenzie of KY, Brian Myers of AZ, and Joshua Myers of CA and 11 great grandchildren. At 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 9, there will be a Chapel Service at Greenwood Memory Lawn at 719 N. 27th Avenue in Phoenix, AZ. A celebration will follow at Golden Corral at 7609 W. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ from noon to 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the MUSD Special Olympics.
