Emmanuel Tirol Tamondong, son of Francisca Tirol and Moises Tamondong of Tangalan, Aklan, Philippines, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Coronado House being cared for by Hospice of the Valley with his daughter Merlevic by his side. He is also survived by his daughter Emma, son Joel, grandchildren Kryshamae, Gyselle, Harmon, Anne Marie, a great grandson, brother Joseph and several loving nieces and nephews. After the passing of his beloved wife, Mercedes on October 21, 2012 he had a valiant six month long struggle with a series of chronic health issues. He will be remembered for his cheerful sense of humor, jovial laughter as well as for his altruistic nature. He opened his home to fellow kababayans, a number of whom lived with his family before settling into their own homes. Emmanuel also taught new friends to drive, completed taxes for free, and often drove those unable to drive themselves to appointments, without expecting anything in return. He worked in the payroll department of Maricopa County for several decades before retiring. Recollections of moments spent with friends at Madison Meadows Retirement community playing bean bag baseball, penny poker, singing karaoke, as well as memories of ballroom dancing, playing mahjong, and making Filipino parols endeared him to all those fortunate enough to meet him. His warm smile will be missed but his zest for life remains, carried on through the countless lives he touched as a beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend.
Emmanuel's family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley in lieu of flowers.
A vigil/visitation will be held at Shadow Mountain Mortuary on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral church services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 10:00am at St. Joan of Arc Church. A reception following the services will be held at 1124 W. Roma Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85013.
