Diane Webb Hale (85) passed away on June 27, 2020 due to COVID-19. Diane was born on June 10, 1935 in St. Johns, AZ, a second-generation native of the state. She eloped with the love of her life, Ferrell A Hale in 1953. They lived in Springerville, AZ until 1969, when they moved to Phoenix. They were happily married for 59 years, enjoying gardening, camping and family activities.
Diane worked for over 20 years at the Phoenix Public Library as circulation supervisor, which meshed well with her life-long passions for learning, reading and collecting. Diane was a multi-faceted woman with many interests. Her love of reading led to a love of collecting books, especially mysteries, archaeology and ancient history. She also amassed a huge collection of paper dolls and other collectibles over the years. She involved family and friends in her antiquing forays, including a birthday antiquing trek to Prescott each year. Diane’s love of history and archaeology lead to travels to England, Mexico, Europe and Egypt. Highlights included the pyramids of Chichen Itza, an extended stay in a historic castle, a camel ride in front of the Great Pyramids and a cruise on the Nile River. She is fondly remembered as an amazingly creative cook, especially for her signature green chili enchiladas. Many happy memories are shared that involved Diane in an apron, mouthwatering aromas, a table overflowing with food and crowded with enthusiastic family and friends.
Diane is preceded in death by her husband Ferrell, her parents Neldon Jesse Webb and Lorraine Overson Smith and her sister Rita Webb Scott. She is survived by her 3 daughters Brandy (Bob) Ensign of Paradise Utah, Shelley (John Oblinger) Myers of Phoenix AZ and Paula (Kelly) Fortier of Phoenix. She is also survived by 3 sisters Jessica Gardom, Melody (Bob Utley) Webb and Candy Webb all of Scottsdale AZ, her half-brother Scott Smith of Glendale AZ. Other survivors include grandchildren Tiffany Clyde, Rob Ensign, Jennifer Franklin and Jessica Wing, as well as great-grandchildren Taylor, Reilly, Danika, Logan, Owen Clyde, Robbie, Sami, and Chloe Wing.
