James Ramon Springer, 80, of Scottsdale Arizona passed away on November 30, 2013. He was born in Pecos New Mexico and was the middle child of nine siblings. His wife Lois Springer and his four daughters Lisa, Gabrielle, Kara, Andrea and his seven grandchildren, survive him.
James entered the seminary in California at the very young age of 11. He spent 16 years in Seminary studies, which included Theology, Latin, Greek, and Philosophy at Loyola University. Advanced studies were completed at Catholic University. In 1964, he commenced a 33-year career at the National Security Agency as an Intelligence Research Specialist, a tour of duty in Vietnam, and Hispanic Program Director. He completed his career as Special Coordinator to the El Paso Intelligence Center for the Department of Defense.
He was ordained as a Catholic Permanent Deacon in 1975 to carry out his passion for service to the community. He served in many parishes over the last 30 plus years in Maryland, Texas and Arizona. Jim started and was in charge of many Hispanic community programs while serving as a Deacon including St Bernard in Scottsdale Arizona and St Joan of Arc in Phoenix Arizona.
He had an amazing compassion and love for people. He was gentle, strong and courageous. His contribution to so many lives will be remembered for many years to come.
Jim enjoyed reading, watching football (particularly Notre Dame), studying religion and writing.
His family and friends will miss him dearly.
A viewing will take place on 5th December at 6PM and rosary at 7PM at St Joan of Arc Parish located at 3801 East Greenway Road in Phoenix Arizona.
