Dave was born on September 19, 1965 in Mansfield, OH to Rodney and Carol Campbell. Dave
was a graduate of Ontario High School class of 1983. He received his BA in Health/Physical
Education and Biology from Ohio Northern University in 1988 where he was a member of the
football team and fraternity Delta Sigma Phi. Dave also received his Masters in
Education/Administration in 2008 from Eastern New Mexico University.
In 1992 he moved to Dexter, NM where he began his 29 year career with the Dexter School
District. During his time at Dexter he coached various boys and girls sports teams, but was most
proud of his 1997 Football State Championship team. In 2005 he became the district’s Athletic
Director until his retirement in 2021. Dave was also a member of the New Mexico Activities
Association and was president of the NM Athletic Directors Association. He was honored by the
NMAA on numerous occasions, with the most recent being Athletic Director of the year for class
3A.
In 2011 he met his beloved wife Jennifer and they married in 2012. They had 3 dogs together
that he loved dearly: Bella, Buckeye, and Brutus. Anyone that knew him knows that he was an
avid sports fan of The Ohio State University and the Miami Dolphins.
Dave is survived by his wife of 9 years, Jennifer Campbell, along with his 3 step-children
Breanna Marrujo, Allyssa Madden, and JohnPaul Madden all of Phoenix, AZ. His mother Carol
Campbell of Ontario, OH; brother Mike (Kristie) Campbell of St. Mary’s, GA; sister Lana
Campbell of Ontario, OH; nephews Logan and Kaden Campbell and niece Kallen Campbell all
of St. Mary’s, GA. He is also survived by his in-laws, nieces and nephews and his precious
goddaughter Ava Grace all of Phoenix, AZ; and all those he considered his extended family in
Dexter.
He was preceded in death by his father Rodney Campbell; grandparents Robert and Loretta
Campbell, and Thomas and Helen Crawford.
Services will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 10:00am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 111
E. Deming, Roswell, NM. Following services there will be a ceremony at the Dexter High School
football field, followed by a reception at the elementary school.
