Betty Jo Fletcher, age 95, passed away peacefully, at home, on October 18, 2021. A lifelong Phoenician, Betty Jo was born in Phoenix on April 18, 1926 to Joseph and Christine Campbell. Following her years at Kenilworth Elementary School and Phoenix Union High School, she went to Colorado Women’s College in Denver. While in Denver, she met her future husband Edward Fletcher. They married in 1948 following her graduation from Mills College in Oakland, California. They lived the first year and a half of their marriage in Anchorage, Alaska where they welcomed their daughter Pamela. After a short residency in Albuquerque, New Mexico, they settled in Phoenix where they rang in the New Year of 1952 with the birth of their son Guy.
Using her degree in Early Childhood Education, Betty Jo taught preschool for 60 years to the 3 and 4 year olds at Camelback Desert School. Active in her church, Betty Jo served Trinity Episcopal Cathedral as a choir member in her youth, and for many years as a Sunday School teacher and then as a member of the Altar Guild.
Betty Jo was predeceased by Edward in 2007 after 59 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her older sister, Patricia Campbell, in 2019. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Robert) Fesinmeyer, her son Guy, her grandchildren Matthew (Megan) Fesinmeyer, Jennifer Fesinmeyer, and Courtney (Erik) Lorack. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Madeleine and Avery Fesinmeyer, and Maximus, August and Finnley Lorack. Finally, she is survived by her younger sister, Margaret Prow, and by nephews Edward Campbell and Steven, Robert and Thomas Prow. Services will be held on November 3, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, at 100 West Roosevelt in Phoenix. Donations to Hospice of the Valley are suggested.
