Barbara Jean Garhart

Barbara Jean (McGuern) Garhart was born in the City of Sitka in the territory of Alaska. She grew up most of her youth life in the Seattle Washington area. Her late teen and adult years were spent living in Phoenix, AZ where she ultimately settled down, married and had her four children. While living in Phoenix, AZ, Barbara worked as a registerd nurse; As a registerd nurse Barbara worked as a school nurse in the Alhambra Elementary school district, Worked for St. Joseph's hospital, then for the Arizona Department of Corrections, where she ultimately retired as a nurse helping inmates. Barbara was preceded in death by her Mother, Josephine Yeley, and her daughter, Patricia Garhart. Barbara is survived by her brother Thomas, sister Catherine, her sons (George and David), her daughter (Theresa), and six grandchildren (Daniel, Cassandra, Christopher, William Edward, William Scott and Tracy). Barbara was well known for some of her volunteer works in the community as her children were growing up. Barbara was active in the Cordova Elementary School PTA and the Boy Scouts of America as a Cub Scout Den Leader. Barbara was a 12 year Breast Cancer survivor. Ultimately Barbara passed away due to the same disease she survived for 12 years, stage 4 Breast Cancer. By the time it was determined that the breast cancer come out of remission, it had already spread to the bone and throughout her body. Barbara died ultimately the same way she started with this disease, fighting. Barbara fought to the very end putting on a brave face for those she knew. Many times stating she wasn't in pain when she and her family knew darn well she was. Barbara ultimately passed away, as she liked it, being surrounded by family all of whom she loved very much.

Sevices will be held at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, located at 15800 N Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85351; on Thursday, December 29, 2016. Viewing/Visitation will begin at 9:15, mass at 10:00 AM with internment to follow at St Francis Catholic Cemetery located at 2033N 48th St, Phoenix, AZ 85008. A celebration of life reception will be held at her son David's house immediately following.
