Stanly was born April 6, 1953 in Austin, Texas. He is predeceased by his parents, Dr. Royston M. and Phyllis B. Roberts, and Marilyn Kuehler, his longtime companion. He passed away in Austin on April 1, 2024 at the age of 70, having touched all he knew with his special spirit.
Stan was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, earning degrees in Finance and Journalism. He spent his first working years as an F.D.I.C. bank examiner, but then pursued his love of writing, eventually working for over 20 years at the Los Angeles Times as editor of the News and Sports Desks. He was an athlete who loved baseball and was a Strat-O-Matic champion.
He is survived by his two brothers, Rick (and Franci) and Dave Roberts, his sister Jeanie (and Bob) Hermansen and their daughter Catherine, nephew Daniel (and Lisa) Roberts and their children Ava and Ashley, and niece Honelie (and Derrek) Harper and their children Madeline, Daxton, Dekker, and Genevieve.
