RD graduated from Banning High School and upon graduation enlisted in the United States Army. He retired early after 13 years of service as a Sergeant. He met and married Bernadette M. Singleton in 1988. After their military career, the family including their son, John Singleton, moved to Austin, Texas. Holy Cross Catholic Church was their church home of worship. He was employed at Dell, Inc. for 20 years as a System Analyst until he retired in June of 2012.
RD loved all sports and was well educated on the “stats” and would bet anyone on his pick for the winning team. He was a devoted 49ers and LA Lakers fan. He was very fond of music as well, his favorite artist being Michael Jackson. He also enjoyed bowling, dominoes, traveling, reading anything on sports, and watching cowboy and science fiction movies. Hanging with family and friends gave him the most joy.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Virgie Orphey Singleton; father, Daniel Davis; grandmother, Dora Davis; sister, Adreka Smith; brother, Anthony Davis; and brother-in-law, John Cole.
Roderick leaves wonderful memories to be cherished by his wife, Bernadette Davis of Pflugerville, Texas; son, John Singleton of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Paishynce Singleton of Daytona, Florida; his mother, Helen Steele Davis of Compton, California; father-in-law, Willie Singleton, Jr. of Lake Charles, Louisiana; two sisters, Everlee Kelley and husband Ray of Sun City, California and Torrie Cole of Los Angeles, California; nephew, Ronald Wallace of Sun City, California; niece, Sharmaine Hason and husband Omar of Los Angeles, California; four brother-in-laws, Billy Singleton, Sr. and wife Priscilla Roy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, David Singleton, Sr. and wife Jessica Brignac of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Russell Singleton of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Martin Singleton, Sr., of Austin, Texas; three sister-in-laws, Barbara Byars and husband Robert of Austin, Texas, Wanda Malveaux and husband Darrell of Austin, Texas and Jennifer Singleton and husband James of Welsh, Louisiana; best friend, Neil McLyn of Phoenix, Arizona; God-son, Marcus Dejean and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, in-laws and many special friends.
A visitation will be held from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden Capital Parks in Pflugerville, Texas. Services to celebrate RD’s life will follow at 6:00 pm, also at Cook-Walden Capital Parks. On Saturday, December 22, 2012 another visitation will be held from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, at Combre Funeral Home in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with burial following at Sacred Heart Cemetery, also in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
