Ruby Muriel Wiley Westbrook passed away December 6, 2023 at the age of 100 years in Austin, Texas. She was born in the Elgin, Texas area to Bessie and Otto Wiley on June 18, 1923. Muriel fondly recalled stories of riding her horse “Fancy” to Woodrow School. She later attended school in Taylor and graduated from Elgin High School in 1940. She worked as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She lived in Austin, Texas for many years. She enjoyed knitting and collecting glassware which she sold at her store, “Muriel’s Antiques”.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Otto Wiley, her brother Jarmon Wiley, her first husband Thomas A. Blagg, a daughter Tommy Sue Blagg Fiero and her second husband Terry Mathis Westbrook.
She is survived by son Terry Don Westbrook and wife Vernetta Ann Fisher Westbrook, grandchildren Sandra Michelle Westbrook Polkowski and husband Stephen, Samuel Dean Westbrook and wife Lisa Kanoe Arneson Westbrook, Edward Thomas Fiero and wife Cynthia Roseanne Fiero, Steven Scott Fiero and wife Monica Fiero, Dr. Jeffrey Carl Fiero and wife Meghan McCone Fiero, Michael Fiero and wife Cari; nieces Janet Dunbar, Judy Dunbar and nephew Jarmon “Jay” Wiley, Jr.
Muriel is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Casey Nix Fiero, William “Liam” Thomas Fiero, Emerson Lou Fiero, Sophia Raye Fiero, Logan Scott Fiero, Elliott Muriel Fiero, Ethan Fiero, Christopher West Polkowski and David Brooks Polkowski.
A casual graveside service will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery & Mausoleum, 14501 North Interstate Hwy, Austin, TX 78753.. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
