Lee Russell -- Mom, Mamaw, Mams -- of Pflugerville passed away on October 13, 2013 with her beloved classical music playing beside her. Mamaw, as she was called by grandchildren, great grandchildren and even friends of all ages, never met a stranger and was always positive, upbeat and smiling.
Lee was born April 25, 1927 in Charleston, West Virginia to Rome and Ellen “Creasy” Hamilton. She had two sisters Mabel and Dorothy (deceased) and three brothers Romie (deceased), Bob Hamilton of Phoenix, AZ and Gene Hamilton and wife Rachel of Pinellas Park, Florida. Lee graduated from West Virginia University with a Medical Technology degree where she was also a member of the philharmonic choir. She also had a certification in mammography. Later in life, she was a real estate agent specializing in leasing. She was also an ordained Deacon and Elder in the Presbyterian Church.
The greatest joys in Lee’s life were her three sons – Terry, Jerry and Barry. As her family grew to include grandchildren and great grandchildren, nothing came before being a part of their lives or being at one of their activities. Whether it was baseball, football, softball, soccer or basketball, Lee was always on the sidelines cheering. She was also present at their recitals, plays, graduations and weddings. If she was in the hospital, Lee had to hurry and get out because she had a family event to attend. Lee was all about supporting her family regardless of what she might be doing or how she might be feeling. Being involved with their lives was Lee’s top priority.
She loved going to the opera and traveling. She traveled to the Holy Land, Alaska, Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, throughout the United States and went on numerous cruises. Lee represented how people should live their life -- striving everyday to make the world around them a better and nicer place.
Lee is survived by her three sons and their families: Terry and wife Lynne of Irving, Jerry and wife Cindy, of Plugerville, and Barry and wife Jill, of Midland. Her nine grandchildren and their families include: Rusty Russell; Michelle Reid and husband Blake; Heather Martin and husband Lee; Lauren Grafe, husband Ryan; Wade Russell, wife Margot; Paige Hrubetz, husband Jon; Jason Russell, wife Becca; Jay Russell, fiance Shannon Davis and Aimee Herring, husband Casey. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren, Kaden and Kameron Martin; Olivia Reid; Hudson and Claire Hrubetz; Blakeleigh and Gunner Herring; Cannon Grafe and Madeleine Hancock, who were her life.
A celebration of Lee’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 19 at Point of Grace, 19507 FM 685, Pflugerville, Texas 78660. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Point of Grace Love Fund, in care of the church, in Lee Russell’s memory. The Love Fund is used to help the less-fortunate families in the Pflugerville area no matter what church affiliation.
