Kim Thomas

Kim Thomas is one of six children, 3 boys and 3 girls, and was born on 05 January 1964 in Battambang, Cambodia to Nguc Yuon Nhim and Courn Nhim. During the Vietnam War and Pol Pot regimen in the late 1970s, the Nhim family left Cambodia in 1979 to Thailand for 2 years. The Nhim family was then sponsored by an American family and made the journey to Manila, Philippines for 8 months until they finally arrived to the United States (Thousand Oaks, CA) in 1982 and eventually made their way to the Lone Star State. It was Texas where she learned that it was her permanent home. She attended John H. Reagan High School. She was immersed in the Texan culture and loved all it stood for. Her favorite thing about Texas was the King of Country George Strait. Although her roots were from Cambodia she still loved everything about her culture and ensured she would carry that over to her first generation American children. Kim was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She would remind them always that they were the oars to a canoe. The canoe was the journey, she was the captain navigating with the oars (children) to guide them throughout life. She raised her children and grandchildren with patience, discipline, and humility. Kim was so kind and softly spoken but she was abundant in the love she gave and received. No one who met Kim forgot her infectious passion for cooking. She was consistent about always bringing food to her job to share with her colleagues and bringing food to her children/grandchildren. Food . . . it was her love language.

She lived a humble life with full of love and no regrets. Kim had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way which left footprints in everyone’s hearts. Her smile was unforgettable, her laugh was contagious, and the way she made others feel will forever live in each of our hearts. Her perception always in life was “you can’t change people but you can change how you feel”.

Kim Thomas is survived by her husband Mark Thomas, older sister Peahg, younger sister He, younger brother Smok, daughters Lori, Laura, Bopha, and son Andy. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends whom adore her with all of their hearts.
