Juanita Francisca Herrera Sosa was called into the Kingdom of Heaven, on March 21, 2024. She was born in Laredo, Texas, on August 21, 1941.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Francisca R. Herrera, sister, Natividad, brothers, Isaac, Romano, Rosendo, Jose Luis, Pedro, husband, Ernest B. Sosa, and stepsons, Mark and Michael Sosa.
Survivors are her sons, Edwardo J. (Anita) Mireles and Marco A. Mireles, step-grandsons; Aaron, Brian (Sarah), and Clayton (Emma) Sosa; great-grandchildren, Jaelyn, Braylee, Anthony, and Cameron Sosa; sister, Rosa Maria H. Flores, and brother, Roberto Herrera. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Chong Herrera, San Juana L. Herrera, María Teresa O. Herrera, and Estella Herrera; and numerous nephews and nieces.
After her military service with the Air Force, she worked for the Federal Civil Service, Air Force, for 36 years; retired, and came back to work as a contractor for another 10 years.
Juanita enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, reading, and doing genealogy research. She traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Europe. She enjoyed dancing and performing with the San Antonio Ballet Folklorico Festival for more than 20 years. In her later years, she enjoyed the Pflugerville Community Center, Health Nuts cardio and yoga classes, and their other activities, Member of the American Legion Post 154 serving in an Executive office, she always kept herself active.
A memorial service celebrating Juanita's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. She will be laid to rest at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
