Jose was born on May 12, 1967, in Del Rio, Texas to Carolina (Hernandez) and Jose Angel De La Cruz. Jose was a dedicated father, grandfather, and coach.
Jose was raised in Uvalde, Texas. He graduated from Uvalde High School in 1986. (Once A Coyote Always A Coyote!)
After graduating, he moved to Austin, Texas, where he continued his boxing dreams. Jose was a boxer from a very early age; he won many titles and awards. His passion and love for the sport of boxing was like no other. After having children, he decided to stop boxing and turn his love of fighting in the ring to coaching outside the ring.
At age 19 Jose started his career at UPS. He valued and loved all his fellow UPS brothers and sisters who all knew him as Joe a.k.a Golden Gloves. Jose retired after 36 years with UPS in the summer of 2022.
Jose loved spending his weekends with his children and grandchildren. Grampy Joe is what they called him. He loved rock music, fishing, his Dallas Cowboys, and the University of Texas Longhorns. He also loved having a cold one on those hot summer days.
