John Lloyd Snider went to be with our Lord and Savior on Friday, September 13, 2019. He was born in Blacksville, West Virginia on May 14, 1939. John is one of six siblings: Juanita, Charles, Dorothy, Ruth, & Bill. He was preceded in death by his father John Albert, his mother Mary Jane, his sisters Juanita, Dorothy and Ruth, and his two precious grandchildren Jonathan & Chandler Thomas. John attended West Virginia University and then joined the United States Air Force where he served for four years.
In the summer of 1961, John was stationed in Tucson, Arizona where he met & fell in love with Joan Marie Ferris. They began their 57-year marriage & were soon blessed with three children: Lisa Maria, John Albert & David Lloyd. John’s wife & kids were his life. He coached little league, soccer & was a Cub Scout leader for his children. In 1962, John began his highly successful, 31-year career with IBM. His travels with IBM brought him to Austin, Texas.
The greatest times in John’s life were times spent with his children, his daughters-in-law Wendy & Nina, and all his beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren. His grandchildren Jonathan, Madison, Justine, Chandler, Junior, Justin, Bella, John, Sophia and great grandchildren Hudson, Adelyn & Ellison (who is arriving soon), all affectionately called him Pappaw.
John treasured his time spent golfing with IBM friends and fishing and hunting with his sons. John and Joan loved attending the many soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and football games of each of their children and grandchildren. He was loved and respected by the many people he encountered throughout his life and will be sorely missed by us all.
Friends, family, and others whose lives John touched are invited to attend a memorial service and celebration of life at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home 14501 North Interstate 35 Pflugerville, Texas 78660. This service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, with visitation at 2:00 p.m. and services beginning at 3:00 p.m. Monetary donations in John Snider’s honor to Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE First St. Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131 or to Parkinson.org will be greatly appreciated.
