James Vern Fleming, 94, passed away on November 13th, 2014 at his home in Pflugerville with his wife, Ada, by his side. He lived a life dedicated to the church and his family. He enjoyed many days fishing, hunting, and playing games with his grandchildren.
James was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 10, 1920 and graduated from Elgin High School in 1937. He married the love of his life, Ada Lou Hibbs, on December 22, 1941. James was a farmer, rancher, and retired a Supervisor from the Austin State School. After retirement, he worked at Marbridge and in the car financing business.
James was a Preacher, Elder, and Song Leader at the Cedar Valley church of Christ in Elgin for many years. He was also an active member at Southwest church of Christ, Buda-Kyle church of Christ, University Hills church of Christ, and most recently at Westside church of Christ.
James was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Verla Fleming. James is survived by his wife, Ada Hibbs Fleming; son, Gary Fleming and wife Francine; grandson, James Fleming and wife Melissa; granddaughter, Samantha Fleming Jewett and husband Robby Jewett of Michigan; grandson, Michael Raven; and great-grandchildren, Jenna and Brock Fleming.
The family would like to thank Halcyon Hospice for their compassionate care and family, friends, and members of the church of Christ for their support.
Mr. Fleming will be in state on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The family will greet guests at services to be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Westside church of Christ in Round Rock, Texas. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
