Gloria was born to Cecil and Mildred Loftin on January 18, 1931 in Chapman City, Texas. She spent many days of her childhood with her grandfather and Uncle Bill at their farm in Rockdale, Texas. She attended Manor High School and soon after graduation moved to Austin and married her husband of 49 years, Jack R. Hicks. Gloria and Jack had 5 children together.
As well as being a homemaker, wife, and mother, Gloria enjoyed her friends. She was active in a women’s bowling league for many years and loved to go bass fishing with her husband, Jack, and their friends, George and Edith Doyle and Oscar and Kathy Miles and others. Their children have many fond memories of those days fishing, camping, and deer hunting together.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Mildred Loftin, her husband, Jack Hicks, her eldest son, Jackie Hicks, her grandson, Greg Hicks and her brother, Cecil “Sonny” Loftin.
Surviving Gloria are her children, Phyllis (Lary) Brown of Blackhawk Colorado, Sheila (Mike) Brooks of Rock Port, Texas, Randy (Betty) Hicks of Pflugerville, Texas, Ricky (Tammy) Hicks of Valley Spring, Texas and Sandra Hicks of Thrall, Texas. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the loving staff at The Springs Nursing Home for the care and attention given to Gloria for the last 4 years and especially during the last few months. No amount of words can express the heart-felt admiration for their true devotion of caring for Gloria and the other residents.
