Gilbert was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who lived with a passion for capturing memories with his cameras, traveling in his RV, and finding the most memorable white elephant gifts for the Sanchez Family Christmas.
A World War II veteran and recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, New Guinea Campaign Bronze Star, and WWII Victory Medal, he served with honor in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945.
He was born on June 8, 1921 to Jose Zaragosa Sanchez and Josefa Zamudio Sanchez in New Braunfels, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Roy, Henry, Ray, and Sara; and his wife, Barbara Erbert Sanchez and former-spouse, Josephine Rodriguez Sanchez.
Gilbert is survived by five children: Joy Mojica and her spouse, Joel Mojica, Yvonne Lee and her spouse, S. A. Lee, Keith Sanchez and his spouse Jimmie Jo Sanchez, Karen Hickman, and Nathan Sanchez and his spouse Cindy Sanchez; three siblings, Elida Rodriguez, Sara Jonas, and Rick Sanchez; nine grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Gilbert will be forever remembered for his contagious smile, dapper style, and cigar in hand. Although we can no longer see him with our eyes or touch him with our hands, we will feel him in our hearts forever. The family celebrates his life and finds comfort in knowing he is in Heaven watching over us.
