He was born in Houston on October 2, 1927 to Edward and Ella Lydia (Poston) Doyle. George proudly served in the United States Navy from December 1945 until October 1947, and served on the U.S.S. Lexington. On February 17, 1947, he married his high school sweetheart, Edith Wells in Houston.
He had a life-long career as a Heat and Frost Insulator and was a 60 year member of Local #87, Heat and Frost Insulators Union. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed spending his time hunting, bass fishing, camping and playing golf. He was a life-long member of the Capital Bass Club. He enjoyed fixing things and working as a handyman, and spent many days in his workshop. George treasured the bonds he shared with his family and friends, especially any time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary, Ruth, and Dorothy; and his brothers, John and Robert. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edith (Edie) Doyle; son, Larry and wife Linda; and daughter, Donna Doyle and David Meyers, all of Austin; brothers, Pat and wife Jean of Austin, and Raymond Harkey of Escondido, CA; and sister-in-law, Geneva Doyle of Austin; granddaughter, Tonya Beggs, and grandsons, Chad Morrow, Dakota Doyle, and Laramie Doyle; and eight great-grandchildren, Logan, Saeger, Tye, Greyson, Madison, Steiley, Macie, and Kix. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and his many friends.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation to be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011 in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors will follow at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery.
Honoring George as pallbearers will be Dakota Doyle, Laramie Doyle, Chad Morrow, Dax Beggs, David Meyers, and Ricky Hicks. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Doyle, Joe Watson, Raymond Harkey, and Greg Griffin.
For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Lung Cancer Research.
