Eva May Smith

Eva May Smith, age 96, passed away August 27, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. May was born May 1, 1925 in Lambert, OK to George Washington and Mildred Sarah (Duckworth) Oyler. Her family later moved to Austin where she graduated from Austin High School. On December 23, 1941, she married Donald Edward Schwarz. May became a Gold Star Widow when Donald was killed in action during World War II. On December 3, 1946, she married Herman L. Smith and they shared 44 wonderful years until his death in 1991.

May was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and was retired from the Texas State Comptroller’s Office. She enjoyed gardening, bluegrass festivals and holidays with her family.

May was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Edward Schwarz and Herman L Smith; son, Dennis E. Schwarz; as well as her sister, Georgia Childress. Those left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Denise Lee and Sherrie Bagwell; great grandchildren, John Lee, Matthew Lee, James Johnson and Jessie Lawrence; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home with Funeral Services immediately following. A private family graveside service will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
