Her first name was Doris, but everyone knew her as Rhae. She was born in Lenoir, North Carolina, a daughter to Susie and Red Clark on July 28, 1932. She married Cecil Van Kirby in 1953 and followed him to multiple states during his career in the military. They moved to Central Texas in 1967, where Rhae took up the chore of making their house into a home and raising her two sons, Michael and Mark. She loved cooking, sewing, baking and caring for her family. Her specialty was coconut and red velvet cake. For fun, she took up league bowling. She worked for a bit of time at Armstrong-McCall, but always put her family first. Rhae was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Pflugerville.
Rhae is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Van Kirby; son, Mark Alan Kirby; grandsons, Michael Lee Kirby and Jason Wayne Erwin; and great-grandson, Zachary Michael Kirby.
She is survived by her son, Michael Van Kirby and his spouse, Catherine Ann Kirby, of Smithville: her two grandsons, Asa Shea Kirby and his spouse, Christy Leger Kirby, of Austin and Matthew Alan Kirby; as well as two great-grandchildren, Asa Beau and Mabel June Kirby.
Rhae was given expert final care by a wonderful team of people from Aspen Hospice.
A visitation for Rhae will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. A graveside service will occur Friday, July 26, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery in Pflugerville.
