Debra Lowenthal Ravel, age 74, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2024, with family at her bedside. Born on September 2, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan, Debra was the daughter of the late Richard and Shirley Lowenthal. She was the beloved wife of Rick Adams and the cherished mother of Alexis Blais. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Lowenthal and her brother Eric Lowenthal, and she was predeceased by her brother David Lowenthal.
Debra’s life was marked by an adventurous spirit. She had an insatiable curiosity about the world, which she satisfied through travel, daring meal choices, and sincere interest in new people. Notoriously charming, she made friends wherever she went. She enjoyed watching quirky independent films and the company of her much-loved dogs. In her later years, with Rick’s encouragement, she became a Houston Astros fan.
Debra had a distinguished legal career that spanned decades. After earning her B.A. with high distinction from the University of Michigan and her J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1976, she began her career as an Assistant Attorney General of Texas, serving from 1977 to 1980. In 1982, she was elected Justice of the Peace for Precinct Two of Travis County, Texas, where she served until 1989. From 1990 to 1992, Debra was a Hearing Examiner for the Commissioner of Education. She later worked as an attorney and Public Information Coordinator at the Railroad Commission of Texas, from which she eventually retired.
Debra’s distinctive humor, intelligence, and sense of adventure were truly memorable. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, September 12, at Cook Walden Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
