Deborah (Debbie) Lehmkuhl Brown, aged 70, passed away peacefully at an Austin, Texas hospital on November 17, 2023 after a sudden illness. Debbie was born December 12, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri to Bernard T. Lehmkuhl and Rose Marie Lehmkuhl.
During her younger years, Debbie lived in the St. Louis area and graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in 1971. She also attended several colleges.
In 1990 Debbie met and married William P. Brown in Austin. Debbie and William's daughter, Aubree Marie, was born in 1993.
Debbie had a multi-faceted and rich career ranging, early, on, from modeling, being a flight attendant at Braniff International and traveling the world and later to multiple positions in sales. Debbie was the consummate salesperson and excelled in sales positions including medical laboratory services, house sales and many areas of marketing. Debbie also started and ran several successful home based businesses. She was the author of several booklets on adoption and infertility. Debbie's passion, however, was elementary and secondary education and she attained the most fulfillment working for several years as a teacher's aid at Northwest Elementary.
Constantly on the move even when not feeling well, Debbie was involved in politics and frequently assisted at polling stations and efforts to "get out the vote". She was an accomplished cook and baker and when she couldn't find something to do she would knit or crochet and give the items to friends. Debbie's involvement in her community was extraordinary including participating on the board of her neighborhood HOA to assisting with many community events. Due to her caring and engaging personality she developed many relationships and strong, long lasting friendships with many, many people. A true friend and "mother to all", Debbie truly made a difference to many people.
Debbie's pride and joy was her family and she was her husband's and daughter's inspiration and compass. Debbie is survived by her husband William Brown and daughter Aubree Marie Brown. Two brothers, Larry Lehmkuhl, Rick Lehmkuhl, wife Debbie Lehmkuhl and numerous nephews, nieces and the "Chicago" cousins.
Special appreciation and thanks to Barbara Maureen (cousin), Rick Lehmkuhl (brother) and Mark Lehmkuhl (nephew), Dr. Matthew Anderson and the staff at Austin Pulmonary Consultants, Dr. Michael Schindel and the doctors, nurses and staff at St. David's North Austin Medical Center and Linda Delahoussaye and all Debbie's dear friends.
Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks chapel at 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the Travis County Democratic Party.
