She is the daughter of the late Henry Cleveland Warren and Cora Hester Warren. She was also predeceased by her husband, Buddy Glenn Thomas; a son, Charles Ray Thomas; and a grandson, Cody Garrett Cooper. Bernice was blessed with one brother, Henry Warren (Loma) both deceased, and four sisters – Mary Frances”Sis” McNeese (Gilbert) both deceased, Betty Jo Peterson (Leroy – deceased), Doris Jean “Punk” Reid (Lawrence) both deceased and “the baby”, Patsy Williams (Wayne).
Bernice married the love of her life, Buddy Glenn Thomas, in September 1946 and they had two sons, Stanley Thomas (Debbie) and Charles Thomas. She has six grandchildren – Clay Thomas (Danna), Chadwick Thomas (Amy), Curtis Thomas, Tiffany Cooper, and Brittany Hinkle (Mathew). She also was blessed with and very much enjoyed her nine great-grandchildren – Charley, Cooper and Cora Thomas, Storie Still and Makenzie Thomas, Tristan and Kipton Thomas and Mason & Adelyn Hinkle. Bernice had numerous “favorite” nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
Bernice graduated from Round Rock High School, attended Nixon Clay Business School and held a variety of office jobs. Until they retired in Salado in 1985, she worked alongside her husband for many years operating a masonry business and in 1974 they opened Turbine West Supply, which they owned and operated in Austin.
Bernice was a loving wife, mother, Nanny and friend. She had a passion for spending time with family and friends and chatting with the ladies at the beauty shop. (Peggi did her hair for 20+ years.) She stayed in touch with high school friends and long-time friends across the country. She loved to cook hearty, wonderful meals for her family and friends. Nanny was the best cook and it didn’t matter what was cooking, or for what occasion, there was always enough to feed an army and take some home. She always served a snack before every meal and had an assortment of desserts. Great memories were made around her dining room table, and not only during meals, but also during Monday morning coffee where all the problems of the current time was solved.
Bernice and Buddy enjoyed traveling and racing mules. Some of her fondest times were when the sisters went to the races with her and Buddy. During these travels she often would pick up clown figurines to add to her vast collection. While she wasn’t much for watching TV, she did enjoy watching (and complaining about) Judge Judy. Classic country music was often playing in the background as Bernice and Buddy enjoyed sunsets on the front porch as the cows grazed in the pasture. She loved her family and nothing made her happier than having everyone in her home and watching the kids play outside.
Her family will miss and remember her with love and would like to thank Wildflower Place and all the wonderful staff, nurses, CNA’s, and Home Health Caregivers for their tireless care and love given to “Ms. Bernice”.
