Peacefully, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Peterborough Extendicare in his 94th year. Beloved husband of the late Jean Mary (née Findlay). Loving father of Michelle Gardiner (late Colin), Kelly McIsaac (Laurie) and the late Julie Anne. Proud grandpa of Victoria “Tori” Wirth (Sam) and Jeffrey Gardiner (Michelle Tober); and great grandpa of Colin Wirth, Declan Wirth and Layla Gardiner. The last of his siblings, John is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Prior to retirement John worked with Jack McGee and Duffus Motors. A man of strong and enduring faith, John was a frequent attendee of Mass at St. Peter’s. A true sports fan, John had season tickets for the Petes for 25 years, as well as being a Lakers and Blue Jays fan. One of John’s favourite things to do was attend any and all of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Senior’s Slow Pitch and Skating were some of his own sports.
Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Peter-in-Chains, 411 Reid Street, Peterborough on Friday October 18, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. Followed by a private family urn committal. The family wish to thank the caring staff of Peterborough Extendicare for the kindness they gave. In honour of John, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated by his family.
