NIND, Jean Helen (née Marriott) – At the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on February 26, 2018. Jean was born in Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia, on June 17th, 1930. She met her late beloved husband, Tom, in Venezuela, and the couple lived and worked overseas until Jean contracted polio in Borneo in 1957. Following Jean’s recovery in hospital in England, the couple emigrated to Canada, first settling in Saskatoon and then, in 1966, moving to Peterborough. Along their journey together, Jean and Tom had three children, Christopher, born in London, England; Sarah, born in Kuala Belait, Brunei; and Andrew, born in Prince Albert, Canada.
Formally educated at the Chelsea College of Art and Design, London, England, Jean was a highly accomplished visual artist, primarily working in the disciplines of drawing, painting and printmaking. She lived and worked predominantly in Peterborough for the last half century of her life and was heavily involved in the formation and governance of both Art Space and the Art Gallery of Peterborough. Her work is included in public art collections across Canada. Jean Nind was represented by the Russell Gallery, Peterborough.
Jean is the dear mother of Christopher Nind and his wife Margaret of Oakville, Sarah Nind of Toronto and Andrew Hughes Nind and his wife Christina of Reading, England. Loving grandmother of Jessica, Zoe, Diana, Brigitte and Kristine, and great grandmother of Brydie, Dimitrije, Augustin, Maksim, Sasha and Emilia. Beloved sister of John Marriott of Mayfield, Sussex, England and Sally Marriott (deceased).
