Janet’s family sadly announce her unexpected and peaceful passing on Friday, April 7, 2023 at her home in Mississauga at the age of 69. Loving mother of Troy (Melissa Low) and the late Jeff. Proud grandmother of Chase and Sadie. Dear sister of Val, Don, Larry (Nancy) and Danny. Sadly missed by her dog Wylie. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Born to parents Aurele and Louise Melanson, Jan spent many fond years with her family growing up in Nassau. She was a hard working and kind person. Her dedication to others was proven by her work as an alcohol and drug addictions counsellor. Jan also played an important role in many people's journeys to sobriety with her work in Alcoholics Anonymous where she built life-long friendships and a strong support system. She also worked tirelessly to improve herself and would have celebrated 33 years of sobriety on June 17th. Jan spent much of her life caring for people. She raised her two boys in Toronto before returning to Peterborough where, for many years, Jan took care of her mother (Louise) and was the building manager of Cathedral Court. Over the last year, she moved to Mississauga to be close to her family and care for her grandchildren. She was a devoted daughter, sister, friend, sponsor, mother and grandmother, who gave everything she had to provide and care for those she loved.
Janet’s family will receive friends at the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough, on Sunday, April 16th, 2023 from 4-6 pm. Mass will be held at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains, 411 Reid Street, Peterborough, on Monday, April 17, 2023 at 10 am. In honour of Janet, a kind act or donation to charity of your choice would be appreciated by her family. Online condolences can be made at www.comstockkaye.com.
