Isabel passed away quietly and peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at PRHC at the age of 99. She was born on September 16, 1925 in Cottesloe, Ontario. Isabel was predeceased by her parents Fred and Sarah (née Moore) Girven, and brothers Ed, Jack and Jim, and sisters Mary Webster and Laila Drain. Isabel will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews, including Eric Drain (Betty), David Drain (Valda), Barb Morrison (Bob), Glenn Girven (Elly) and Wayne Girven (Sue). She will be sadly missed by her good friends Dale and Cauleen Cox. Isabel has resided at Peterborough Retirement Residence since 2016 and made many friends there. She loved the social activities that she attended.
In 1948, Isabel married Sherwood Hendren and they had a long and happy marriage. Sherwood passed away in 1991. Music was a huge part of their lives and many musical groups and friends will remember Isabel on the keyboard and Sherwood on the violin. As a couple, they loved to travel and went on many enjoyable trips with friends. Visiting family and friends on a Sunday evening was another activity that they loved. She was a valued member of Northminster United Church.
Isabel was a wise and skilled employee of General Electric from 1945 until 1984, working in the accounting department. She was a member of The Order of The Eastern Star beginning in 1950. She also bowled at Brookdale Plaza for almost 30 years.
We have lost a caring and thoughtful person. People often use the word “nice” to describe someone, but Isabel was the definition of that word – she was kind, funny and genuinely curious about other people. Her absence will be felt. Many thanks to all of those who cared for Aunt Isabel during her later years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough on Friday, November 29th from 11:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service in the chapel at 12:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Interment at Highland Park Cemetery.
Per Isabel’s request, in lieu of flowers, a donation to Northminster United Church would be appreciated. Online condolences may be shared at ComstockKaye.com
