Good morning and you have my condolences.   I am a former student of Mr Found, around 1980.   I was a trouble maker in school and was suspended a couple times. The principal at the time, who I can’t remember, wanted to ban me permanently but Mr Found intervened.  If it wasn’t for Mr Found I would not have finished school let alone graduate.    Thanks to him I have had a great life so far and am now retired with my wife.    Take care

Bruce's presence on Anstruther Lake will be missed.  We were so glad to have met him in his later years and enjoyed hearing of his stories about how he helped his friend, Bud, build our cottage one summer.  He held and shared so many memories of the Lake from the days when he was one of the first true Anstruther Lake "pioneers."
We can picture him so clearly in his beautiful old boat or starting the Long distance swim from Found's Island, and a couple of summers ago racing in the parent/child canoe race with Paul.  Our sincere sympathy to you and your family for the loss of this kind, interesting and gentle man.

Dear Catherine and family: Witnessing the love and support and humour shared by all of you is a reflection of the man, husband and father I knew Bruce to be. His impact on my life will never be forgotten and I will strive to be as kind and generous as he. I was so lucky to have been one of the numerous people who benefitted from his generous spirit. Bruce loved you so much Catherine, as did he of his kids and grandkids. My memories of Bruce as he helped me through challenging times bring smiles to my lips and tears of gratitude to my eyes. I will miss his presence, his stories, his humour: Bruce, a good man and friend.

 Of all those who attended Bruce's funeral I had known him longer than anyone else save Elaine, in a friendship that, had he lived until next September, would have spanned 70 years.

Bruce and I entered the Ontario Agricultural College of what is now the University of Guelph in September of 1943, in the midst of World War 2. Half the campus was occupied by an RCAF wireless training school, but that half included all the residence accommodation, and students had to live off-campus.  In that first year I don't know where Bruce lived, but I had a single room on Crawford Ave. with a teacher at the MacDonald School on campus, and his wife.  During that year I became friends with Bruce and with another Torontonian, Donald Arscott with whom Bruce had developed close ties.  At the outset of the second year they wanted to take the top floor of 15 College Avenue as living quarters, but it could accommodate four, and I was asked to go in with them. (The fourth boy who joined us was one Bruce Hamilton, who dropped out after that year and we lost track of him.)  Thus I spent the fall term of our sophomore year living with Bruce and got to know him and like him well during that time.  Among his many and varied interests Bruce was a motorcycle enthusiast, as was Don, and we were often joined for visits by another of our classmates, Bob Phillips, who also had a bike.  Bob graduated with us, started a very profitable business, and died in 2001.

After our second year the class members all diverged into our various specialty options.  Bruce and Don remained together in the Agricultural Science stream, a general science program designed for teachers, and remained close, but I chose Chemistry, and although there were some classes in common I saw less of Bruce from then on.  But Arscott, Brown and Found were a trio that remained close friends ever after, and unlike most of our classmates we were a very durable trio: Don lived to 92, Bruce to 88, and I am 87 and counting!  I maintained contact with both, and Bruce with Don, throughout most of the rest of their lives. But I had gone to Michigan State for my graduate studies the year we graduated from OAC, and then worked 13 years in Saskatoon, and this geographical separation meant that I saw little of Bruce in those years.  But I did visit him a couple of times while he taught in Ottawa, once when he was involved in the very secret courtship of Catherine Jevons.  I have photos in my collection of them during our visit to Kingsmere, and a picture of Parliament Hill taken from a plane in which Bruce, such a flying buff, gave me a ride.

Once Bruce moved to Peterborough I did see more of him and Cathy, but not as much as I'd have liked.  It seems that when you can visit friends any time you wish it becomes less of a priority, and you tend to procrastinate, but I always maintained my high regard and great liking for Bruce, talked with him and Cathy occasionally, and we frequently attended class reunions in Guelph.  He was class Secretary-Treasurer for some years.  He will remain unforgettable until my dying day as one of the dearest friends of my life.

Pat(nee Keeler)and I wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to you, Mr Found's family. As grade 10 students when Adam Scott's opening in 1961 through our graduation from grade 13, he was to us eminently fair, kind and wise. Clear memories from over a half century ago.  You must be so proud of this great man. Our hearts go out to you.

Dear Margaret: Please accept our deep sympathies, extended to you and your whole family on the event of the loss of your dear father. He was a wonderful fellow to have as a Vice-principal at ASCVI. Bruce, my dear friend: I will always remember the tales you told (often with a mischievous twinkle in your eye), the respect and compassion that you had for all people, your kind generosity and the support and encouragement you gave to me when the trials of life were getting me down. The lessons I learned, the realizations I came to and the love I witnessed through you has forever changed me for the better. I will always strive to be the person you made me believe I can be and the memory of your sweet smile will live in my heart forever.

Our deepest sympathies to you on the loss of your father and grandfather. Although it is difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help to comfort you now and in the days ahead.

Catherine and Family:

Although we knew that Bruce was struggling with failing health the news of his death did come as a surprise and a feeling of real sadness and loss. It was almost 70 years ago when Bruce and I enrolled together at OAC and over those years we have enjoyed continuous friendship and fellowship.  You and Bruce have been strong supporters of OAC and in particular Year 47 OAC. Our many year reunions are memories we now cherish and appreciate more than ever. Although we will not be able to be with you and the family in person this Friday our thoughts and prayers will be. Our most sincere condolence to and your family.

We only got to visit with Bruce once when Jennifer brought her parents to New Brunswick and we really enjoyed their visit.
