It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Dr. Alexander Eric Wilson Morton at home on December 28, 2016 with his family at his side. Eric was the adored and devoted husband of the late Margaret Morton (2014) for 62 years before her death. Eric is survived by his loving children Graham (Debbie), Carol and David (Heather); grandchildren Ashley (Dan) Ugricic; Cameron (Kyra), Christopher, and Alexander Morton; and great-grandson Oliver Ugricic. In addition to Margaret, Eric was predeceased by his parents and Graham’s first wife, Susan. Eric was a gifted Radiologist in Peterborough from 1963 until his retirement in 1994. Born to Scottish parents in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1927, Eric moved to Scotland with his parents at age 7 and was raised and educated in Rutherglen until attending medical school at Glasgow University. Upon graduation, Eric enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force where he worked in the medical corps, attaining the rank of Acting Wing Commander, before returning to university in Toronto to specialize in Radiology. Devoted to medicine, Eric passionately pursued his avocation of boating. Starting with a small cedar-strip runabout, Eric captained a number of cabin cruisers and the family travelled the full length of the Trent-Severn Waterway, Georgian Bay, Lakes Ontario and Huron, the Rideau Canal, and boated down the St. Lawrence Seaway to Expo ‘67 in Montreal. Eric was a long-time member of both the Peterborough Power Squadron and the Great Lakes Cruising Club. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Peterborough Canoe Museum, the World Wildlife Fund, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated by the family. We thank the entire nursing staff and support teams at Canterbury Gardens for the excellent care and support of our entire family during Dad’s final leg of his journey. Thanks also to the many devoted friends and colleagues who were a part of Dad’s life-long voyage. Online condolences may be made at www.comstockkaye.com
