Thomas David Drummer, age 59, of Chassell Michigan passed away on August 13, 2013 in his home. He was born May 30, 1954 in Bowling Green, Ohio. Tom was a Professor at Michigan Tech University where he has taught since 1985. He joined the university’s math faculty after completing an MS in Applied Statistics from Bowling Green State University and a PhD in Statistics from the University of Wyoming.
He loved teaching at Michigan Tech. Tom was respected as a teacher, counselor, and mentor to his students. He was also a trusted colleague who had a tremendous influence on the professional careers of younger faculty members.
Tom’s love of the outdoors was a central part of both his personal and academic life. This was evidenced by his frequent fishing, camping, and hunting trips. He pursued an active research program that included statistical analyses involving wildlife. Among his many projects, he studied trout in Yellowstone Lake, the wolves of Yellowstone National Park, and elk and moose in Alaska, the Upper Peninsula and Isle Royale. Whether it was kayak fishing in the Upper Peninsula, tracking wildlife in Wyoming, or hiking through Alaska, his life was surrounded by nature.
But above it all was his family and friends. He enjoyed cheering on the football Browns with his dad, arguing with his mom about which team was better - his Detroit Tigers or her Cleveland Indians - sharing holidays with his sister, and spending time with his life-long buddies. As a son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, he would always be there when you needed him.
Tom was preceded in death by both of his parents, Eugene “Tom” and Suzanne Drummer. He is survived by his sister, Rebecca Drummer of Rossford, Ohio.
The family will receive guests Wednesday, August 21, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m., in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E South Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH 43551 (419-874-3133). Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 22, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Tom’s final resting place will be in St. Rose Cemetery, Perrysburg, Ohio.
