Mary Catherine Slater, 75, of Pemberville, OH passed on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 9, 1939 to David J. and Ethel M. (Aughenbaugh) Evans. She married her sweetheart, Alvin Slater, on September 20, 1969 in Hatboro, Pennsylvania. She cherished the 45 years they had together.
Mary was very active in the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Maumee, OH, serving as their treasurer, and as librarian for the Christian Science Reading Room for many years. Prior to retirement, Mary was an International Banker in Philadelphia and Toledo areas. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and sang with the Sweet Adelines.
Mary is survived by her husband, Alvin; many nieces and nephews including Millie (Michael) Eben of Reading, PA, and David (Cynthia) Meck of Boynton Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, WWII veterans David Evans and Paul Evans, Korean War veteran William Evans; and sister, Elizabeth (William) Meck.
Services for Mary will be private. Interment will take place at Fort Meigs Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Witzler Shank Funeral Home, 222 E.S. Boundary St., Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to First Church of Christ, Scientist, 228 E. Dudley St., Maumee, OH 43537; or to the Toledo Area Humane Society, 1920 Indian Wood Circle, Maumee, OH 43537.
