Sharon was born on December 11, 1947, in Sioux City, Iowa to Betty and Ole Olawsky. She was the big sister to her three brothers, Mike, Pat, and Charlie. She always enjoyed reminiscing and sharing stories from her childhood. Spending time with her family brought her such joy. Sharon was a devoted wife, and loving mother and grandmother to her children, Ben (Kat) Kaufman of Mississippi and Stephanie (LeMoyne) Fletcher of Maryland, and her grandchildren Jaden, Geddy, Kaylee, Benji, and Robert. Sharon lived for her grandchildren and loved telling stories about their summer visits to Illinois.
Sharon spent many years working in the retail and food service industries and was known as the “Hostess with the Mostest.” She carried that passion for helping others throughout her life.
Sharon operated her own home-based sewing and monogramming business for many years. She enjoyed doing crafts, and quilting for the Linus Project, an organization that provides quilts to children in need. Sharon enjoyed digging in the dirt in her flower and vegetable gardens, and keeping the birds fed. She was constantly trying to find new ways to chase off the pesky ground squirrels in her yard, and this was often laughed about in recent conversations.
In her earlier years, Sharon served as president, treasurer, and fundraising chair for Anshai Emeth Temple sisterhood. She spent the last two years proudly serving on the OSF Patient and Family Advisory Council for Home Care Services. Sharon was a strong advocate for the palliative and hospice services that are available to the Peoria community.
Most recently Sharon selflessly cared for her late husband of 37 years, Jim Scott. Their marriage was full of travel, love, laughter, and many jokes.
Cremation rites have been arranged with Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Homes in Peoria, Illinois.
In her final days, Sharon said she could hear Jim say: "You will finally get that smokin' hot body you've always wanted, even though it won't be for very long."
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sharon's name to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, 8630 IL-91, Peoria, IL 61615.
