Ron was a graduate of Rushville High School. After high school, he received an associate degree in Mechanical Design from Spoon River Community College in 1974. He worked at Shalco Systems in Kewanee until 1978 when he started working for Butler Technical Group as a design engineer subcontracted with Caterpillar from 1978 until around 2012. Ron had a passion for cars. He loved going to car shows and had a collection of model cars. A couple of his favorites were the Tucker automobile and the Duesenberg. Ron also loved rabbits and collected all kinds of rabbits from plush to glass and ceramic figurines. His other hobbies included cross-stitching, doing puzzles, and watching movies. He also loved spoiling his four-legged grandchildren, Apollo and Ollie. He would frequently visit and have pockets full of treats to give them after he had them perform tricks that he taught them.
