Robert L. Reed, 92, of Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 in Peoria. He was born on May 6, 1931 in Memphis, Tennessee, a son of Roosevelt Reed and Edna (Allen) Reed. He married Nantexta "Nan" Durham on February 6, 1968 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2020 in Peoria.
Robert is also preceded by his parents; two brothers, George Reed and Roosevelt Reed, Jr.; one sister, Evelyn Reed.
He is survived by his 10 children, Rodney Sanders and Edna Taylor both of St. Louis, Missouri; Chris P. (Elisha) Reed of Atlanta, Georgia; Julius L. Reed, Robert Durham, Shirley A. (Steven) Jones, Demetrial Reed, Philip B. (Rosalyn) Reed, Latrice M. Reed, and Emmanuel J. Reed, all of Peoria; and a host of loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Robert served his country in the United States Army, a veteran of the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal and two Overseas Bars.
He worked as a truck driver for Cullens Construction for over 20 years, retiring in 1995, and he was a member of the Teamsters Local #627 for over 35 years.
He loved to go fishing, play billiards, collect coins, woodworking, and watching war movies, westerns, and anything Richard Pryor was starring in.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Davison Fulton Woolsey Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Service will be following at 2 p.m. with Military honors. Entombment in American Mausoleum in Peoria. Arrangements have been entrusted to Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria.
