He was born on May 7, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA to Edward Howard and Marion Martha (Nester) Wetherill.
He married Sally Lynne Schuller on March 21, 1970 in Bartonville. They were married for 38 years until her death on April 16, 2008 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean M. Blood; mother in law, Geraldine M. Schuller; and father in law, Wilbur G. Schuller.
Dick is survived by his two sons, Grant H. (Jo) Wetherill of Peoria and Bret R. (Lynda M.) Wetherill of Edwards; and four grandchildren, Ashley L., Ryan R., Brooke L., and Mitchell G. Wetherill.
Dick graduated from Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, GA and Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was stationed in Sinop, Turkey and Northern California in the Army Security Agency. Dick retired from Caterpillar after 33 years where he was a Research Development Engineer in Manufacturing.
Dick enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the world, he visited 49 states and 20 different countries and lived in many places including Philadelphia, Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, Perry, AR and Peoria. Family vacations were spent driving across the country. He loved model railroading, coin/stamp collecting, constructing his Lego City with his grandkids but most of all he loved to spend time with his family. He was always there to help with anything family or friends needed.
Private family services will be held.
Entombment with military honors will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
