She was born on May 10, 1961, in Peoria to James and Joyce (Swanson) Murphy. She married Vincent Wieland on June 2, 1984, in Peoria. He survives along with three daughters, Kayla (Mike) Schneider of Edwards, Tarah (Tom) Meister of Farmington and Erika (Tyler) Scheirer of Normal; seven grandsons, Wesley and Isaac Schneider, Heath, Luke and Leo Meister, Nolan and Quinn Scheirer; and two granddaughters, Braelyn Schneider and Annabelle Meister.
She is also survived by four sisters, Cassie (Dave) Myers of Peoria, Fran (Vern) Widmer of Oshkosh, Wis., Lisa Sonney of Peoria and Erin (Trevor) Reed of Clearwater, Fla.; one brother, Pat (Lori) Murphy of Bartonville; additional siblings, Danny Haley, Betty Powers, Kim Hackney and Randy Haley; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, Phillip Haley.
Mickey was a news assistant at the Peoria Journal Star for 16 years, retiring in 2016.
She attended Northwoods Community Church.
Mickey loved to crochet for family and friends, making everything from hats and blankets to special Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. She loved her plants, especially succulents and was known to be the Goodwill treasure queen, finding all the hidden gems. She was a wonderful cook, with her most requested family dinner being her famous Swedish meatballs. Mickey was the most selfless person, always thinking of others and giving the best advice. She was an incredible wife, mother and “Mimi,” and will be missed tremendously.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home. Mickey’s service may be viewed live on the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel Facebook page. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.
