He was born in Peoria on July 20, 1940, to Lucille and William Stuart. He married Patricia Partridge in Peoria on June 9, 1962. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Patricia (Brian) Latham and Mike Stuart Jr.; grandchildren, Jacob, Jackson, Alyssa and Katelynn. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William Stuart.
He graduated from Eureka College on a football scholarship and earned his Master’s from Bradley University. While at Eureka he was co-captain of the football team his junior year and captain his senior year. Michael was a natural-born educator with over 32 years of dedication. He taught at Richwoods High School for 3 years, where he also coached the sophomore football team. He later taught at Peoria Central High School, where he also was the assistant varsity football coach, track team coach and head wrestling coach.
In addition to his career in education, he enjoyed various projects such as the popcorn business that he ran out of his home, teaching golf at ICC and making fishing lures. He was a member of University United Methodist Church, where he was Sunday School director and served on the Parish Board. He was a member of the Timberlake Club and ran the Canadian Club Tournament for 15 years.
Cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at 4 PM with Rev. Ethan Carnes officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
