Kay Helen Phillips Sharp was born on March 27, 1937 to James Hugh and Helen Knappen Phillips in Peoria, IL. She attended Morton Grade School, graduated from Morton High School and attended Methodist School of Nursing at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. Her parents and one brother, Dean Phillips are deceased.
She married Jay Max Sharp in San Antonio, Texas on July 3, 1957. After four years where Jay served in the Air Force they returned to Washington, Illinois. They raised their family of five, Dawn (Rick) Sharp of Washington, Diane Dinkheller of Wauconda, IL, Danette (Steve) Wetterauer of Washington, Daren Sharp of Quincy, IL, and Dion (Allison) Sharp of Cape Coral, FL.
She leaves 22 grandchildren: Christopher (Darcie) Sharp, Courtney (Ryan) Aberle, Cole (Brittany) Sharp, Caylee (Jake) Doering, Chase Sharp, Corey (Rachel) Sharp, Cameron (Chelsea) Sharp, Cassandra (Mason) McCoy, Colton Sharp, Caden Sharp, Lauren (Jacob) Hines, Zachary Dinkheller, Lindsay (Brett) Still, Alyssa (Wil) McBurney, Natalie (Pat) Brown, Valerie (Jared) Saddorris, Justin (Gabrielle) Sharp, Jared Sharp, Kodi Sharp, Kami (Ty) Paluska, Brooke (Nick) Craven, and step-granddaughter Autumn Anzell. She also leaves a legacy of 34 great-grandchildren.
Kay was active in her church and choir at First United Methodist Church of East Peoria where she served on several committees. She started and sang in a gospel group called Ecu-Keys in 1973 where they sang locally for 42 years. She loved singing and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with songs of joy and praise.
Kay worked at JoAnn Fabrics, Uniformly Perfect and Cat Merchandise Center retiring in 2014. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their various sports and activities and family trips. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the most wonderful blessings of her life.
Kay’s celebration of life service will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2021 at First United Methodist of East Peoria. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is handling arrangements. She was a member of First Methodist Church of East Peoria and memorials may be made to her church, American Breast Cancer, or Theresa Tracy Strive to Survive for Pancreatic Cancer.
