Katherine “Katy” Hoerr, age 88, of Peoria, passed away Monday, April 15th 2024, at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria. Her husband of 68 years held her hand and whispered her home as members of her family sang: It is Well With My Soul.
Katy was born on May 20, 1935 in Sabetha, Kansas to Walter and Elsie (Grimm) Hess. She married Max P. Hoerr on January 29, 1956 in Peoria. He survives. Also surviving are three sons: Robert (Myrna) Hoerr of Germantown Hills; Steven (Susan) Hoerr of Chillicothe and Max II (Suzanne) Hoerr of Congerville. Katherine was grandmother to 15 grandchildren: Joshua (Bethany) Hoerr; Jesse (Joanna) Hoerr; Mindy (Mike) Kaisner; Tamara (Kyle) Eaton; Kristin (Chris) Maher; Louis (Briana) Hoerr, Emma Hoerr; Hattie Hoerr; Sarah (Tim) Beyer; Rebekah (Geoffrey) Guth; Rosie Hoerr; Martha (Tim) Berger; Andrew (Dawn) Hoerr; Rachel (Rex) Wettstein and Miriam (Josh) Knapp and 36 great-grandchildren and 1 foster great-grandson. Also surviving are one sister, Bernetta Binkele and one sister-in-law, Rhoda Hess.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Eugene Hess and one brother-in-law Robert Binkele.
Katy was treasured and loved for her gracious, generous and loving spirit. She had a determined nature that carried her through her long illness. She was a beloved sister in faith to those in her Apostolic Christian Church family of which she was a member for nearly 70 years. She was a selfless saint and was always focused on helping and serving others. That caring spirit drove her to go back to school in her 30’s to get her nursing degree. She loved reading and was a life-long learner. She also enjoyed traveling with her family and husband. She loved animals and children and taught many children how to swim.
The family wishes to thank those at Apostolic Skylines for their loving care in her short time there and for their ongoing care of Dad. Visitation will be Thursday, April 18th from 4-8pm at the Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria and one hour prior to the funeral service at church on Friday. The funeral will be held Friday, April 19th at 10am at the Sheridan Road Apostolic Christian Church in Peoria with church ministers officiating.
Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery near Edwards, Il.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to Apostolic Christian Skylines.
