Josefina "Mama" Garcia

She was born January 25, 1927 in Chillicothe, IL to Jose and Librada Soria Garcia. She married Henry Garcia Sr. on March 24, 1951 in Chihuahua, Mexico. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2001.

Also preceding her in death are her one son Richard “Rick” Garcia, one infant son Gary Garcia, four sisters and three brothers.

Josefina is survived by one daughter; Nancy (Richard) Andrews of Colleyville, TX., one son; Henry Garcia Jr. of Peoria, IL., one daughter-in-law; Sue Garcia of Hanna City, IL., one sister Ramona Garcia Bitar of Mexico, as well as eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She retired from OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria in 1990 after working for several years in their housekeeping department.

Josefina enjoyed raising birds, gardening and crocheting. She also enjoyed salsa dancing and collecting porcelain dolls.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2011 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Father John Verrier will officiate. The Rosary Service will be at 4:00 p.m, followed by the visitation from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, in Peoria, IL., with an additional visitation at church from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Peoria, IL.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.
