Janet D. Metzger

Peoria Heights - Janet D. Metzger, 74, of Peoria Heights, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. She was born on September 7, 1947, a daughter of Francis and Millo (Bowman) Durflinger. She married Merrill William Metzger on October 19, 1991 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2011 in Peoria Heights.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Janet is survived by her special family, Linda (Ed) Jatkowski, Sr.; their three children, Stephenie (Paul) Stone, Rachel (Kevin) Davis, and Ed Jatkowski, Jr.; seven great-great-nieces and nephews; honorary son, Johnnie (Spycie) Miller; honorary brother, Gary (Karen) Siebenthal; honorary sister, Marla Griffith; many cousins; her godson, Ian Metz; and so many lifelong friends.

She was a 1965 graduate of Richwoods High School. She worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. for several years. She last worked as a fingerprint technician for the Peoria Police Department for many years, retiring in 2001. She received a Distinguished Service Award from the police department for her expertise on a murder case.

She was an over 50 year member of First Christian Church in Peoria, where she served as a Deacon Emeritus and in many other capacities. Janet was a licensed Amateur Ham Radio Operator. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Grandview Lodge #1112. She was a past member of the American Business Women's Association.

Janet's memorial service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at First Christian Church in Peoria. Rev. Karen Merrick will officiate. There will be no visitation. Masks are required at the church. A private inurnment will take place in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria at a later date.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Peoria, OSF Hospice, or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
