I don't know how many years ago we started the tradition that Brother Jim began for us.  A song that you know you would see in the bulletin every Easter at Dayton Avenue was " Up from the Grave, He Arose" and Brother Jim directed it so well that it added a special touch to Church that day. When we moved to Iowa , and even back to the Bloomington area , we never had that hymnn sung on Easter Sunday, so we play a recording of it sometime that day ( usually morning ) and we know that it is Easter celebration time as our Saviour has risen , praise be to God!  This is just a small testiment to how Brother Jim touched our lives. We are truly blessed to have known Brother Jim . Thank you to his loving famiy for sharing and supporting Brother Jim so that he could share God's love with so many in so many different ways.

Brother Jim was an example of a Godly man who loved his family, his church family, but most of all his Lord Jesus. I am proud to say he Played a large part in my spiritual discipleship. I especially enjoyed being in the church choir at Christmas cantata time. Rest in peace brother Jim, well done good and faithful servant🙏 Vickie Scribner

So sad to hear about Jim.  I had thought about him a few times recently, thinking he was one of the best men I ever knew. Now he is singing praises to Jesus!! And I’m sure Jesus is pleased.  He will be missed by many, but we will see him again.

Richardson family.....though I know none of you personally, I was acquainted with Jim through my involvement with music ministry in the Metro Baptist Association..specifically, at Rome Baptist Church...many years ago.  Jim was one of  the kindest men with whom I've ever been acquainted....a true gentleman.  My heartfelt sympathy to all who loved him.

We have known Jim for many years.  He had a true servant's heart along with that wonderful smile.  Now he is with the Lord he loved and served, experiencing perfect peace and rest.  Our prayers are with Wanda and his family.

Jim was a wonderful Christian man, husband, father, grandfather, and most of all - servant of the Lord Jesus Christ.  It was my privilege and pleasure to serve alongside him.  I remember this truly meek man's most powerful words when I first assumed my shepherd's role.   He said that it was his duty to assist me to be the best pastor that I could be.   This trusted brother did so with joy, much patience, and kindness.  But isn't this the Christian care that he showed us all?

Jim was a dear, sweet man that actually let me sing in his choir even though I was not good. He surrounded me with people that were. Lol  He performed marriages for my oldest son and his bride as well as my sister and brother-in-law. He was a good friend for many years to all my family and he will be missed and thought fondly of for years to come.

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Jim when I was only 7 years old. I can honestly say he had more affect on me than any other man in my life. We moved a lot and he visited me at every home and made sure I could get to church. Jim was the reason I picked up an instrument and I’ve picked up many!  Everything good in me I can source to you Jim, I miss you and look forward to seeing you again in heaven. 

I will always remember brother Jim as he helped me get into singing specials at Dayton avenue Baptist Church back in early 2000's.  It made me active in church.  I always made sure I talked to him at church when I visited my family in Peoria once a year.  He will be missed.   Praying for comfort and peace for Wanda and the rest of the family
