Jim is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served honorably in the Navy and for his service, he earned a Purple Heart.
Jim’s experience in the Navy played an important role in his life. The Navy taught him the value of discipline, which helped him not only run a tight ship at home, but also helped him build a very successful career with the United States Postal Service (USPS). It was his career with the USPS that brought him to St. Louis where he started a family and established a large network of friends. Jim loved golf and if he was not on the golf course, he could often be found watching or talking about golf.
Jim is survived by his children: Michael (Lauren) Kelly, Erin (Bill) Wingbermuehle, and Bobby (Ruth) Rumbaugh, his grandchildren: Morgan, Joshua, Megan, Christian, and Jordan and his siblings: Mary (Del) Brooks, Teresa Beachler, Noreen (Dan) Carrigan, Kathy Kelly, and Larry (Cindy) Kelly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mildred Kelly, and his brother Danny Kelly.
A small graveside service with Military Honors will be Monday, December 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
