The following is an excerpt from the Peoria RC Modelers Newsletter for June 2018 written by his friend, Jim Hogan:
"George had many interests and hobbies. He loved airplanes both full size and models. He was a good RC pilot and you could hear him chuckle to himself while flying. If he blew a roll or a loop, he would laugh and look at others to see if he had been caught. He was the one who invented the saying "Watch This!" He enjoyed showing off.
He came to Florida one winter and we flew off the beach on the Atlantic Ocean. A small crowd gathered to watch us fly. George being George, decided to take off straight toward the ocean and pull up at the last second to WOW the crowd. Well, a wave came in at the same time and George's airplane flew right into the wave. Yes, George crashed into the Atlantic. He had to wade into the sea in waist deep water in blue jeans to re-cover his dripping airplane. He renamed the airplane "Miss Atlantic" and it was the last airplane he flew."
