He was born on July 24, 1947 in Peoria to Edward and Laveta (Kerr) Jones. He married Sallie Carlson on July 6, 1968 in Peoria. She survives.
Gary is also survived by his daughter, Sherry (Scott) Jennings of Lewis, IN; son, Daniel (Melanie) Jones of Daphne, AL; grandchildren, Codee Jennings of Mapleton, Cassidy Jennings of Groveland, Daniel (Marissa) Jones Jr. of East Peoria; great-grandchildren, Liam, Luca and Levi; sisters, Cheryl Riegelein of East Peoria and Cynthia (Chris) Price of Tucson, AZ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Tonya Jones; brother, Edward Jones; and sister, Constance Wayne.
Gary went to work for WABCO after graduating from Manual High School in 1966. He then went to work for Caterpillar as a 3D computer graphics illustrator. He retired in 2003 after 35 years but continued to work until 2006. Gary did over 30,000 illustrations while at Caterpillar.
He enjoyed playing pool in leagues for more than 60 years and passed along his love of the game to his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and had 58 deer over his lifetime. Gary coached wrestling for the Limestone Blue Crew for 5 years. He loved Ford cars and trucks and participated in various car shows over the years. He enjoyed Nascar and was an avid Mark Martin fan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Pastor Steve Weber will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Additional visitation will be held an hour prior to services on Tuesday also at the funeral home.
