Elmer was born on June 23, 1938 in Bloomington, Illinois to Elmer Lawrence and Wilma L. (Friend) Raithel, Sr. He married Diann Sue Closen on October 26, 1969 in Washington, Illinois.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Diann; his children, Dawn M. (Nick) Tornow of East Peoria, IL, Steven L. (Kathy) Raithel of East Peoria, IL, Bradley P. (Rebecca) Raithel of Lockport, IL and Deena R. (Walter Webb) Raithel of Groveland, IL; nine grandchildren, Naomi, Eden, Nicholas, John, Jeanna, Jennifer, Cameron, Connor, and Maia; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, William, George and Gary Raithel; and two sisters, Mary Wilson and Marsha Beeler. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret and Carol.
Elmer was an Engineer for Komatsu in Peoria for 42 years, retiring in 2008. He also served in the United States Army Reserves. Elmer attended CrossPoint Church in East Peoria. He enjoyed all types of music and was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was also a fantastic PawPaw who loved and supported each of his grandkids.
Elmer’s family would like to thank all those who supported him and were an active part of his life, especially during the past 14 years while he courageously battled cancer. His resolve and passion for God, life, friends and family was never diminished by disease, and the 14 years he successfully fought this battle were truly a gift from God. We would also like to thank all those who offered their time, energy, services, and encouragement these past few weeks. You are all very much loved and appreciated.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home. Pastor Joshua Gutteridge will officiate. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
