Dan was born on September 26, 1943, in Peoria, IL to Milton C. Solomon and Martha (Crawford) Solomon.
Dan was a graduate of Peoria High School and Bradley University. He completed pilot training at Loughlin Air Force Base in Texas and then flew F-84s with the National Guard unit in Peoria. He was a performer and musician for many years in the Peoria music scene before becoming the owner of the Red Barn in 1983. Dan was a strong supporter of live music and was one of the founders of Elandorf Music Festival.
Dan: husband to Suellen (Hitchell), father and father-in-law to Caitlin and Mike Vujovich; new grandfather to Henry; brother to Jim Solomon (Carla) and Marty Solomon Moore (Temple)…and friend to everyone who ever met him.
Among his accomplishments were completing the Milwaukee Marathon, building his own home in the woods, and being a known raconteur. His interests varied from lampshades to airplanes, including woodworking, stained glass, playing guitar, and making terrible puns. He was a constant light in a sometimes dark world, and everybody was attracted to that light.
Visitation will be at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria, on Friday, November 18 from 4pm-6pm. A celebration of life is being planned in the new year.
Memorials may be made to the A.R.K. No Kill Animal Shelter in Lacon, Illinois. Words of comfort can be shared with the family at www.davison-fulton.com.
